Hi
I am using Internet Explorer & have so for many years without a problem.
Recently I have been unable to load up TPG, (my ISP) but am able to go to any other site OK.
When I start my home page (TPG) it just sits there with the "egg timer" showing but goes nowhere.
I am happy with IE & don't want to change browsers but would like to fix IE.
I am using "Outlook" not "Outlook Express" & am able to download my emails but cannot log in to to check usage etc.
I contacted my ISP but they were .........useless ..........
I can log in on another computer but not this one.
Is there a solution to my problem?

Thanks

Hi there oldnickers !

Welcome to the RadioGeek forum.  It sounds like there might be a few things going on, so I was hoping that you might be able to try something, and report back for us.

1) Can you tell us what version of Internet Explorer you are using ?  (click on "Help" then "About")

2) Can you try opening Internet Explorer, going to another website (any one, say http://www.google.com) then typing the address http://www.tpg.com.au back into the browser address bar.  Make sure that you type it - don't rely on your browser favourites, homepage or links.

Let us know what happens.

Cheers,
:)RG

Hi Rob,
I have done all the things you suggested & a lot more.
The only thing that allowed me to log into the TPG webpage was to replace Internet Explorer V 6.0.2800.1106 with
Internet Explorer V 6.0.2009.2180.
It appears that TPG now don't like that version of IE I was using.
Thanks for your help & assistance & will still keep listening to your radio help.
Cheers,
O.N.

Heya Oldnickers,

Great bit of detective work!  I hate to say it, but I have to agree with TPG on this one.  IE6 is now about 8 years old, although it still has some market share.  Basically the world has well and truely moved on - and there is generally only two reasons you would still be using it:

1) your system administrator is too slack or too scared to upgrade
 or
2) you didn't actually know there was an update.

As a professional web developer, neither case really carries much weight with me - I am afraid that you should really look at upgrading! IE7 has been stable for quite a few years now and is doing as well as can be expected from a Micro$oft browser.  IE8 is trouble - with different standards (yet again) there are many websites that are still trying to work out how to run properly on IE8.

On a lighter note - this is actually a debate that many web developers are getting involved in... check out:

http://www.bringdownie6.com/
http://www.stoplivinginthepast.com/

or a more humorous  take on ie6 at:  http://www.saveie6.com/  (really funny!)

I can thoroughly recommend two FREE browsers that work really well, and did I mention  - are Free?

* Google Chrome --> http://www.google.com/chrome  (for Windows only)
* Mozilla Firefox --> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
:)RG
