Could anyone tell me if there is a settiing I am missing to make this work

It tells me the port it is using is usb which is the port it is plugged into on the desktop  should this be set to something else

Hi Sassy,

I don't have an XP computer in front of me so this written from increasingly creaky memory.

First up, on the desktop machine, make sure that the printer is enabled for sharing. Right click its icon and there should be a setting in the 'properties'

USB on the laptop would not be correct if you are networking to the desktop...

On the laptop, you might be better 'adding a new printer'

At some stage during the wizard, it will give you a choice to install a 'network' printer, so select this option. Hopefully from here it should become fairly self explanatory. The wizard should identify either the computer the printer is attached to, or the printer itself (again not able to check right now). Once it's found, it should install drivers, or ask you for the disk. Anyway hopefully that will get you going until someone more informed gives you clearer directions, or I get to an XP box at work tomorrow and confirm / correct what I have written above.
