Windows7 - Microsoft Office XP 2002

Question 1
New laptop - uninstalled Office 2007 and reinstalled Office 2002.
Everything works fine except Outlook.
The program opens ok, but none of the email / calendar functions display.

Error messages:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders.  Could not open the item.  Try again"
then "Would you like to open your default file system folder instead?"
"Office application version does not match"
"Internal MAPI error"
"Incompatible application"

Question 2 - Windows7 - Shortcut keys
How do I get the shortcut keys back that used to work on XP but do not seem to work on Win7?
Eg. Alt + left / right arrow keys = return to previous page

PS: Rob, absolutely love your IT segment - have it diarised in my phone to make sure I don't miss it!  Saved me many a 'bad hair day'!  Smiley

Hi there etbc,

Thanks for the compliments!  It's very flattering to know we have some dedicated listeners out there Smiley

Righto - to geeking...

The short answer is that you can usually UPgrade software ok, but DOWNgrading is very problematic.  Basically as part of the upgrade, your outlook datafiles are also upgraded and changed - but when you forcibly go back to an earlier version the earlier version has no idea what format the data files are in!

Anyway - you will probably need to recreate your data file - in outlook it is called a .pst file.  There are detailed instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286146 - but be warned that the new PST file will not have any of your email/settings.  If you can, run both, copy the email from your old file to the new one then remove the old one.

Hope that helps!

:)RG
