After A.V.G. scans my whole computer; it takes out numerous cookies and places them into its Virus Vault.
Should I empty the Virus Vault or leave it  Huh

The files in the vault have been rendered harmless by AVG. If your computer is operating perfectly OK then you can delete them. The cookies that are sent to the vault are usually tracking cookies. (The ones from spyware, adware and the like) and can be safely deleted. You'll get a bit of disk space back but it's usually a negligible amount unless you've got 2 or 3 years worth of vault entries.
The vault serves as a quarantine area for files that AVG believes are virus carriers.
Due to the nature of heuristic scanning some files can be sent to the vault beause they look like a virus, smell like a virus, act like a virus and therefore should be named a virus. If however this turns out to be a legitimate file, you can restore the file back again. Extreme caution should be taken when doing this as you don't want to undo the work that AVG has done.

Great Advice Tabcom,

Couldn't have said it better myself.

My only comment is for people out there who use multiple scanners - as Tabcom has said, once the files are in the vault they are effectively harmless.  I have seen a second program then come along and take exception to the virus vault - saying (correctly) that there are multiple problems in there!

In that case (and only in this case!) you can ignore the scanner, as the virus vault should protect you.

Cheers,
:)RG
